Casey proposed to Cessie in May 2020 while camping on the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. At the time, the COVID-19 pandemic had swept the globe, shut down entire cities, and rendered a traditional wedding unsafe. Not willing to wait for a vaccine, Casey and Cessie decided to make the most of the circumstances and move forward with a smaller, socially-distanced wedding.

On Friday, July 24, Casey and Cessie exchanged marriage vows outside in the presence of their families. The civil ceremony was short but meaningful with a backdrop of the Tuckasegee river that winds through Bryson City, North Carolina.
